One month from now is Black Friday! Crazy thought. In one month Thanksgiving will have come and gone, and millions of Americans will be focused on saving a buck on stuff they want, or want to give.
But we won't let Thanksgiving pass by without remembering those in need.
The Saturday the 17th, we will be collecting and distributing Thanksgiving baskets, full of all the essentials for a traditional holiday feast. Last year we planned to donate to 4 families in need, but we collected enough to bless 10. This year we are planning to bless 10, but excited to see what God will do.
Do you know of a family who could use a little extra this Thanksgiving? If so let me know. Last year we had more baskets than names of families in need. This year I would love to be able to make sure that everything that is donated goes to those who need it most. (This year if we have more donations than needy families we will donate the excess items to Manna Ministries.)
If you are a teen, who participates in 24/7, it is time to start planing ahead. Ask friends and neighbors to have some items on hand to donate on the afternoon of the 17th. We will split into teams and collect the items, then come back to the church gym to package them up, before heading back out to drop them off.
Items to be collected include:
Turkeys
Stuffing
Potatos (or mashed potato flakes)
Canned vegetables (Corn, green beans, carrots)
Cranberry sauce
Squash
Pumpkin Pie Filing
Graham Cracker Crusts
Dry drink mix (like lemonade or ice tea)
Chocolate Pudding (for chocolate cream pie)
Homemade items, like jams, apple sauce or pickles
Turkey gravy mix
The team that collects the most baskets will get a gift card for a feast of their own.
